Nepal-Türkiye Relations

Overview

Nepal and Türkiye established diplomatic relations on 15 November 1962. Nepali Ambassador to Pakistan is concurrently accredited to Türkiye, while the Turkish Ambassador in New Delhi is accredited to Nepal.
The MoU on Bilateral Consultation Mechanism was signed on 23 May 2016 by the Foreign Ministers of both the countries. First meeting of Nepal-Türkiye Political Consultation Mechanism was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu on 18 April 2019.

Economic Relations

Nepal-Türkiye Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC).

Import items from Türkiye includes gold, semi manufactured forms, poppy seeds, chocolate etc. whereas the major export item is yarn.

Tourism

Nepal and Türkiye signed the Air Service Agreement in September 2010. Turkish Airlines has been operating direct flights between Kathmandu and Istanbul since 2013. This has helped promote tourism in Nepal from Türkiye and other European countries. Türkiye has introduced a provision to grant Nepali nationals holding Schengen visa a 30-day on arrival visa to travel to Türkiye.

Education and Culture

Türkiye has been providing few scholarships for higher education and training for junior diplomats.

Türkiye is keen on expanding its cultural diplomacy. A Turkish school is operational in Kathmandu since 2002. TİKA has been also supporting Education Infrastructure in Nepal.

Adalar Islands (the Prince Islands) and Pokhara Metropolitan City have sister-city relations.
